ABOUT AMANI
Around the world, 80–90 percent of children living in orphanages are not orphans; they have families who love them but lack the means to provide food, schooling, or safety (UNICEF, 2019; Better Care Network, 2021). Amani helps those children in rural Tanzania grow up where they belong–in families, not orphanages–by strengthening caregivers through education, medical support, and sustainable livelihoods.
In this region, many families depend heavily on natural resources (such as the illegal harvest of wildlife, fuel wood, or plants) to survive. Poverty drives both family separation and ecosystem decline, but it doesn’t have to. By ensuring children’s basic needs are met–through school support, case management, and family counseling–and by helping caregivers build climate-resilient livelihoods such as kitchen gardens and small livestock projects, Amani creates a pathway toward lasting family stability and environmental recovery.
All proceeds from this class will benefit The Amani Foundation (EIN 36-4806201), a U.S.-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit that changes lives through the work of our local team at the Amani Initiatives (00NGO/R/7249) in Tanzania.
