Nature Journaling Educator

The Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Educator Program is for those who want more extensive training in foundational nature journaling teaching skills—either for school settings (public or homeschool) or for teaching adults; and for those who want to set up and run a business teaching nature journaling (online or in person).

In addition, you can sign up to earn an optional Nature Journaling Educator Certificate (see below for details). This certificate is an excellent option for formal teachers to share with school administrators, for those writing grants and seeking other types of support for their work, and for those who would like the incentive and challenge of obtaining the certificate.

NOTE: We designed this program for those who want more training and support. However, anyone can be a nature journaling educator, and neither this training nor this certificate is required to do so.

How to Join the Nature Journaling Educator Program:

  1. Sign up for an upcoming Nature Journaling Educator Workshop. Cost is $70 with scholarship options ranging from $0 to $35.

    • View the suite of instructional videos, which include approximately 15 hours of pre-recorded content taught by experienced educators on the fundamentals of nature journaling education. The main educators featured in the videos are Roseann Hanson, John Muir Laws, Yvea Moore, and Billie Joe Reid; videos also include additional content from Alex Boon, Andrea Dingledein, Kate Rutter, Lynn Seddon, and Rob Wade. You will have access to these videos through 12/1/25.

    • Complete assignments on your own time and have them ready before the live practicum.

    • After completing the above video courses and assignments, attend one all-day live practicum session online (dates are: September 7, 2024, January 25, 2025, May 31, 2025, and fall 2025). This one-day practicum is led by experienced nature journal educators who will create practice sessions for the skills you will learn in the recorded sessions.

    • Join our online community area to meet others taking the workshop, discuss assignments, meet up if you are in the same region, and enjoy a sense of community. (Online community launching later this summer.)

    • Registration fee includes materials such as a PDF copy of How to Teach Nature Journaling by John Muir Laws and Emilie Lygren.

    • Optional: You will be able to sign up to earn 2 Continuing Education Units (CEUs).

  2. OPTIONAL: Add a Nature Journaling Educator Certificate. Cost is $45, with scholarship options ranging from $5 to $25.

    • Complete everything in the above Nature Journaling Educator Workshop list.

    • Develop a nature stewardship project related to your nature journaling practice, and document your work on that project for at least six months. (See our Conservation page for ideas.)

    • Organize and teach at least one nature journaling class (online or in person) during the first six months after completing the educator workshop.

    • Receive a Nature Journaling Educator’s Kit: 25 copies of the Quick Start Guide to Nature Journaling handout/zine; a ready-made PDF digital slideshow, A Quick Start Guide to Nature Journaling (perfect for in-person or online intro classes); assistance from our team when needed through our online community platform; and a Wild Wonder Nature Journaling Educator sticker and button (featuring the bee and flower art seen here by Kate Rutter).

    • You will have one year to complete the program to earn your Certificate. After one year, respond to our survey and share with Wild Wonder about your activities (ie: number of classes taught, feedback reports from students, number of students taught), and check in each year after that.
